Chiropractic care, Grand Rapids area, west Michigan
Though we offer many services to our patients, chiropractic care is still the foundation of our practice at Burkhart & Chapp Chiropractic. It is the framework for our approach to treatment and the lens through which we view each patient’s health.
As Doctors of Chiropractic, we specialize in treating conditions of the spine and musculoskeletal system. This includes the complexes of joints, muscles, bones, and nerves that allow us to move, bend, and accomplish daily tasks. Chiropractors are trained to recognize when these systems aren’t working together, are imbalanced, or aren’t functioning efficiently. Once we isolate the cause of these problems, we use conservative, non-invasive manual treatments to resolve them.
These manual treatments often include chiropractic manipulation or mobilization, a technique in which the doctor uses his or her hands to release joints that are restricted, often resulting in the “cracking” or “popping” sound that is associated with chiropractic treatments. Another word for this is an “adjustment.” Chiropractic manipulation is effective, safe, and has stood the test of time. Recent research supports its use in a variety of conditions including back and neck pain, headaches, as well as shoulder, arm, and leg pain.
Chiropractic manipulation is a safe treatment for any age group, including pediatrics and the elderly. Many conditions that affect infants and children such as colic, reflux, and ear infections, can be treated with spinal adjustments.
Chiropractic manipulation is also a wonderful treatment for expectant mothers. Low back pain is a common problem for pregnant women, especially in later trimesters, and many common pain medications are off-limits for this population of patients. Optimizing the movement and positioning of the pelvis provides relief for the mom and also helps the baby position itself correctly for birth.
